When I gear up to commute in from Brooklyn to Manhattan every day -- which takes longer than you might think sometimes -- I know I need gear that can stand up to a busy day in the city that never sleeps. Be it tackling my day job in fashion PR or attending a menswear event on behalf of my blog, The Style Guide, there’s always something new to take on.
And as a Michigan native, adjusting to the fast pace here has been a pretty tall order at times. That’s why I’ve been so pleased and delighted to be able to bring a bit of the Mitten with me throughout my daily life, thanks to the excellent Brothers Leather team and the well-made, handsome Roma Messenger. It’s supple, it’s refined and most importantly, it helps me haul my everyday carry with just the right mix of style and functionality.
It’s not uncommon to see commuters lugging around backpacks or tote bags here in the city, but I find a messenger bag to be much more stylish and practical -- especially the Roma Messenger. As I’ve used it over the past couple of months, it’s begun to break in nicely -- that’s saying something, since the leather is soft and pliable to begin with. And design touches like a large main compartment and a smaller interior divider have been able to hold my laptop and array of notebooks -- essential to running my style blog -- plus other odds and ends. The cotton strap is comfortable to wear slung over my shoulder on the subway or weaving through traffic, and as an added bonus, you can even get this bag personalized. That’s a pretty sweet touch.
And whether I’m heading to the office in business casual style or exploring the more industrial parts of Williamsburg (as seen in these photos), this bag can go just about anywhere. When paired up with my favorite waxed trucker jacket, a heritage-inspired flannel shirt and classic dark denim, it fits in just as easily as it does with my 9-to-5 style. The fact that it holds up to a 15” laptop is just an added bonus -- and in a city where you can never stop hustling, I appreciate that versatility and utility. Of course, you don’t need to live in NYC to find plenty of uses for this bag -- and you can bring it with you just about anywhere you go.
It’s worth the investment, and then some. Get shopping!
